Finding Contentment in the Present Moment: Yoga and Mindfulness Practices

Updated: 46 minutes ago

Life often pushes us into constant motion—planning, striving, rushing toward the “next thing.” Santosha, the yoga practice of contentment, reminds us to pause and rest in the here and now. Practicing Santosha can guide us to soften our grip on tomorrow and notice the quiet richness of this moment.

On the Mat:

  • Yoga Practice: Slow, grounding flow with longer holds (e.g., Child’s Pose, Forward Fold, Pigeon Pose). Pause between postures to notice the breath and sensations.

  • Breathwork: Sama Vritti (equal breathing – inhale and exhale for the same count). This helps anchor the mind in the present moment.

  • Meditation: Body scan meditation to practice acceptance of the body as it is today.

Off the Mat:

  • Practice mindful eating—notice colors, textures, and flavors without rushing.

  • Pause once or twice during the day to simply name what you see, hear, and feel around you, cultivating presence.

Our mantra for the week is…

I am content with this moment, just as it is.

Our journaling prompts are…

  • Where in my life can I soften into “this moment” rather than wishing it away?

  • What does contentment feel like in my body?

And our meditation is…a meditation to feel contentment in the body.

Breathe in slowly and silently say: “I am content.”

Exhale fully: “With this moment.”

Repeat for several minutes, noticing how contentment feels in the body.

I am content with the moment.
Mantra: I am content with this moment, just as it is
