Aparigraha in Practice: Letting Go of Control

In yoga, Aparigraha—non-attachment or non-grasping—teaches us to loosen our grip, physically, emotionally, and mentally. This week’s mantra, “I release what I cannot control,” is a gentle yet powerful reminder that peace lives on the other side of surrender.

Control often feels like a form of safety, but in truth, it can become a burden. When we try to hold everything together—relationships, outcomes, schedules—we tighten ourselves (our bodies & minds) into knots. Aparigraha invites us to soften. To trust. To release.

Whether it’s releasing tension in a yoga pose or letting go of an old story in your mind, this practice creates space for freedom and inner calm. You don’t need to hold it all. You don’t need to fix everything. Breathe into the truth that right now, in this moment, you are okay. And letting go is love.

Our mantra for the week is…

I release what I cannot control.

Our journaling prompts are…

  • What am I holding onto that no longer serves me?

  • What would it feel like in my body to let go of control?

  • Where in my life can I trust more deeply?

And our meditation is…a meditation to help us release control 🌀

Duration: 7–10 minutes

Find a comfortable seat or lie down. Take 3 slow, deep breaths.

On the inhale, mentally say: “I invite peace.”

On the exhale, mentally say: “I release control.”

Visualize your hands opening, releasing sand into the wind—each grain a worry, an expectation, a burden. Rest in stillness for a few minutes. When your mind wanders, gently come back to the breath. Close with the mantra: “I release what I cannot control.”
