The Power of Stillness — Why Rest Is Essential for Your Mind & Body

Rest is not the absence of effort—it is the foundation that allows everything else to function.
When we slow down, the nervous system shifts from survival into safety. Breath deepens. Muscles release. The mind becomes less reactive.
Stillness is not empty.
It is where awareness returns.

Our mantra for the week is…
I honor the wisdom of stillness
On the mat practice: arriving + down-regulating
Constructive Rest (5 min)
Lie on your back, knees bent, feet wide
Let knees gently fall together
Hands on belly + heart
Feel the weight of your body being held
Somatic Unwinding (5–8 min)
Slow windshield wipers with knees
Gentle spinal rocking
Cat/Cow at half-speed
Slow Forward Fold (3–5 min)
Knees bent, torso heavy
Sway or be still
Extended Savasana (8–10 min)
Use props (blanket, bolster)
Invite full support
Focus Cue: “I honor the wisdom of stillness.”
Off the mat practice: the pause
The Pause Practice
Set 3 “pause points” (morning, midday, evening)
→ Close your eyes
→ Take 3 slow breaths
→ Notice: What’s here right now?
Single-Task Awareness
Choose one daily activity (drinking tea, brushing teeth)
→ Do it with full attention
→ No multitasking
Our journaling prompts are…
Where am I overdoing instead of allowing?
What does stillness feel like in my body?
What arises when I pause?
And our meditation is…a meditation to build stillness awareness (7 min)
Find a comfortable position.
Gently close your eyes.
Let your breath be natural.
Begin noticing:
The inhale…
The exhale…
Now bring awareness to the space between breaths.
That quiet pause…
That moment where nothing is happening…
Rest your attention there.
If your mind wanders, softly return to:
breath… pause… breath… pause…
Let stillness hold you.
