Yoga at Bee Well in August: Cultivating Clarity with Saucha

August is a bridge month—a time when the heat of summer begins to soften and the first whispers of autumn appear (maybe...if we can get this heat to let up!). It’s the perfect time to turn inward, reflect, and create a little more clarity in our lives.


This month, our yoga focus is on the niyama Saucha—a Sanskrit word meaning cleanliness or purification. Saucha invites us to care for our bodies, minds, and environments so that we can live with more ease, presence, and joy.


Saucha on the Mat


On your mat, Saucha is about moving with intention and creating a clean, sacred space for practice. This might mean:


  • Beginning with a cleansing pranayama like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) to balance your energy

  • Moving slowly, paying attention to each posture and letting go of unnecessary tension

  • Cleaning your mat and props before or after class as an act of respect for yourself, your practice and the community around you


Saucha Beyond the Mat


Off the mat, Saucha is about making choices that keep your mind and environment clear. This month maybe try:


  • Decluttering your space—letting go of what you no longer need and sharing with people who may be able to use these items

  • Choosing nourishment—food, conversations, and media that uplift you and bring you positive energy

  • Speaking with intention—using words that align with your values and truth


By practicing Saucha, we make space for the things that matter most.

Meditation for Clarity


Take a few minutes each day to pause and breathe deeply.

Visualize a soft white light entering with each inhale, washing away tension and stagnant energy.

With each exhale, release anything that clouds your mind or heart.

Affirm: “I release what no longer serves me. I welcome clarity and peace.”

  2. Where can I invite more simplicity?

  3. What does inner purity feel like to me?
